Abstract: | The paper describes results of theoretical study conducted for evaluating performance of fiber glass thermal insulation in roof of a building. Energy saving potential and corresponding decrement factor and phase lag for various roof section comprising different thickness of fiber glass has been determined. Six roof sections consisting 10 cm RCC, brick tiles and cement plaster with 2.5 cm , 5.0 cm, 6.0 cm, 7,5 cm, 9.0 and 10.0 cm thick fiber glass has been considered for this study. It was found that phase lag of roof sections without thermal insulation is only three hours and by increasing thickness of fiber glass from 2.5 to 10 cm, its value rises by 3.0 to 7 hours respectively from the basic section and in case of decrement factor is reduced from 0.0438 to 0.0034. The peak inside surface temperature of roof and average heat flow through it for different thickness of fiber glass layers have been shown in graphical form. |
